The iconic Twickenham rugby stadium had a major issue with mobile traffic when full to capacity – some 82,000 rugby fans!!!
Our client wanted to provide a seamless mobile experience to the internal bowl at the stadium, enabling customers to make calls, upload footage to social media networking, and make live videos at the key moments.
The client engaged WHP as their prime managed service provider to work together on the solution. Numerous meetings and information exchanges took place before a robust, pragmatic expertly engineered design was made. The client signed this off in a fast track way and the scheme and its every detail was planned well in advance of implementation time slot.
The solution involved installing multi frequency antenna to take larger traffic capacity and a full suite of infrastructure to handle the mass of data generated.
One of the major challenges was the timescale in which we were working. We had a 2½ week window to establish all the infrastructure in the whole arena. This comprised of 2 multi beam antenna, 3000m+ of feeder and associated supporting infrastructure!
A key success factor was the teamwork in play between ourselves and all the suppliers.
Against all the odds WHP got this one over the line! The delighted client said, “we could not have done this without you, and your team were excellent throughout”.
Now 82,000 rugby fans can enjoy the full mobile experience as they cheer their team on in the cauldron of Twickenham.
